6th Form common room

With burgeoning student numbers the existing 6th form facilities were proving inadequate.

Having considered a number of options Spirit Architects proposed the construction of an extension above the existing Assembly Hall which had an inaccessible and failing flat roof.

As the Assembly Hall structure was not capable of supporting the new extension a steel bridging structure was required.

This approach - although somewhat unorthodox - created an additional 100 sq m of space with no loss of existing external amenity area and allowed the construction work to proceed with minimal disruption to the school.

To minimise the construction period the new accommodation was pre-fabricated off-site and lifted into position.
